Individualised care for children with special healthcare needs
All ages
Dental care planned around each child's specific medical, developmental and sensory needs. This may include longer appointments, a modified environment (adjusted lighting, reduced noise, familiar comfort objects), the option for a parent or carer to be closely involved throughout, and a treatment plan built around what the child can manage on a given day.
- Why it matters
- Dental care can be more challenging for children with conditions that affect their sensory processing, behaviour, communication, or medical needs — and it is often more important, because some medications and conditions increase the risk of dental problems. Tailored care makes it possible.
- What to expect
- Tell us about your child before the visit. The more we know — triggers, sensitivities, what helps, favourite items, communication preferences — the better we can prepare. We will review this and plan the visit around it.
